Southeast Wisconsin is experiencing bitter cold temperatures this week. lf you have an older home, not-so-great insulation, a rental property, or a dishwasher on an outer wall, here are some things to remember!
In below-zero weather, the plastic water valve of your dishwasher can freeze, crack, and leak. We recommend removing the kick-plate on the bottom of the dishwasher during very cold weather to prevent the valve from freezing.
When it's really cold, it doesn't hurt to leave your dishwasher door ajar and the lower cabinet doors open to keep your water pipes from freezing.
Be sure your dishwasher has finished its cycle and has drained completely, and ensure there are no clogs holding water inside your dishwasher.
Run your dishwasher load at night, when it's typically coldest outside.
